Mather First 375 Birthday Bash

logo

Kids love a party!  And this one has been 375 years in the making. Because Marcie Joy is known for bringing creative fun to community events, she has donated her time and talent to the OLDEST children’s birthday celebration you’re ever likely to encounter!

YOU ARE INVITED from Mather Elementary on Vimeo.

Background

In 1639, Dorchester residents created the first-ever tax-funded elementary school, and a revolution in education was born. Now 375 years later, the Mather serves more than 600 students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade. Our children are diverse, representing the myriad of cultures and ethnicities within the Dorchester community. We have many challenges to address: more than 80 percent of students are growing up in low-income families, half speak a language other than English at home, and one in five receives special educational services. Our dedicated staff and faculty foster a community of academic rigor balanced with compassion and nurturing.

On Sunday, October 19, 2014, the Mather will kick off our anniversary festivities with an Opening Convocation, Community Dinner, and Birthday Bash. Everyone—Mather students, local families, and all of Boston and beyond—is invited to join the party; we anticipate an attendance of 400-plus. The Bash lasts from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. and will take place inside the First Parish Church hall, adjacent to the Mather.
