A glimpse of Marcie’s project based after school enrichment curriculum from this week (K-3). Learning about natural resources and making animals to gather around a waterhole, constructing homemade kites through trial and error, and turning ourselves into bugs after a rousing discussion about how ants cooperate to build bridges, tunnels, and rafts.
(Above Left) We had an invasion of red ants, pollen eating bees, and some winged creatures! (Above Right) Flying in a video game is easy….Now let’s get something homemade off the ground!
(Above) Literacy Connection: The Water Hole by Graeme Base, and some non-fiction resources. All this made in 45 minutes!
What a creative group!
Marcie’s after school enrichment curriculum for elementary school students balances imagination and creativity with an interdisciplinary approach to hands on, experiential, and task-based learning. Curriculum combines the boundless curiosity of children with guided investigation in the disciplines of engineering, mathematics, literacy, technology, and scientific inquiry.
Students enjoy a variety of enriching toys, crafts, books, music, and games to promote socialization, fitness, literacy, and imaginative play. Over the course of a semester, students dig deeply into themes of their choice, and develop their concentration as they become immersed in research and invention. Fun class titles include Music, Dramatic Play, Wizards & Dragons, Mind Craft, Space Robots & Disco Donuts, Stories & Games, and PLAY. Marcie currently teaches after school daily in Cambridge and Boston.
