Keeping Busy After School!

A glimpse of Marcie’s project based after school enrichment curriculum from this week (K-3).  Learning about natural resources and making animals to gather around a waterhole, constructing homemade kites through trial and error, and turning ourselves into bugs after a rousing discussion about how ants cooperate to build bridges, tunnels, and rafts. bug day kites 2

(Above Left) We had an invasion of red ants, pollen eating bees, and some winged creatures!
(Above Right) Flying in a video game is easy….Now let’s get something homemade off  the ground!

What a creative group!

Semester’s End

For the final Messy Munchkin Art Class of 2014, we painted snowmen with homemade puffy paint, and explored sensory bins full of fluffy snow and arctic creatures. In Mind Craft, we discussed the basics of electricity, and sent secret messages over homemade communication devices. Students experimented with various kinds and lengths of strings and had to work together to find success. Cooperative learning was also the focus in Stories & Games class, as students discussed the folk tale, Stone Soup, and then played or created their own version of the Peaceable Kingdom Cooperative Board Game, Stone Soup.

After School Enrichment

Over the course of a semester, students dig deeply into themes of their choice, and develop their concentration as they become immersed in research and invention. Fun class titles include Music, Dramatic Play, Wizards & Dragons, Mind Craft, Space Robots & Disco Donuts, Stories & Games, and PLAY. Marcie currently teaches after school daily in Cambridge and Boston.
